Congratulations Class of 2013

Congratulations to the Class of 2013 and the newly annointed Alumni of the University of Wisconsin Parkside.  I was very honored to be able to share the day with you.  It was inspiring to be around that much talent Saturday.

We would love it if you would all keep in touch as you journey to the next phase of your life, whether it be grad school or a new career.   Know that we will always be here for you.  

YOU ARE READY and so are we to help you with the needs you may have.  Attend our events, get involved, but most importantly, KEEP IN TOUCH.  You are all fabulous!

Alumni Annual Meeting

It is time again for the UW-Parkside Annual Alumni Meeting.

Date:  Thursday May 16, 2013

Time:  Social 5:30pm;  Meeting 6:00pm

Place:  Student Activity Center, Alumni Room

We will review the events of the past year, the plans for the upcoming year, plus there is at least one open seat on the board.  You can nominate yourself or someone else.  Nominations will also be accepted from the floor.  To nominate someone send a brief description of the person (or yourself) to Peppy O'Neill at oneillp@uwp.edu.

Congratulations, Luke

Men's Basketball Coach Luke Reigel heads to Atlanta this weekend as a finalist for the 2013 Jack Bennett Man of the Year Award.

Reigel joins Bobby Collins from Winston Salem State University, Keith Dickson of Saint Anselm College, Josh Schertz of Lincoln Memorial University and Bob Semling of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point as finalists with the winner receiving the award on April 5 at the CollegeInsider.com awards banquet in Atlanta, site of the men's NCAA Basketball Championship.

Reigel, the 2013 Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year and the 2013 National Association of Basketball Coaches Midwest District Coach of the Year, guided the Rangers' to their first 20-win campaign since 1987, winning the GLVC East Division title for the first time in program history while earning a bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament for just the second time in program history. The 2012-2013 UW-Parkside squad tallied a 14-4 mark in conference play while climbing as high as 13th in the NABC Top 25 Poll while posting a 7-2 record against ranked teams.

The Jack Bennett Award, which represents winning with integrity, is named in honor of the former head coach at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Bennett won five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles, made five NCAA tournament appearances and finished his career with back-to-back national championships, the only two in school history. He's the program's all-time winningest coach with a 200-56 record. In 28 seasons as head coach he compiled a record of 480-175.

Win Streak at 7, men's bb nationally ranked

With a victory over McKendree last night, the men's basketball team stretched its win streak to seven games. Earlier this week, the NCAA DII coaches poll had the Rangers ranked No. 21 in the country. Next up is Bellarmine, Saturday afternoon at 3 in the De Simone.

While the men are leading the GLVC East Division, riding a win streak and nationally ranked, the women have been quietly moving up the conference standings and now trail Kentucky Wesleyan by just two games. The Rangers split the season series with Wesleyan winning in the De Simone, but then dropping a tight game last Saturday on the road. The women tip off against Bellarmine at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Alumni Day at the Games is Near!

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 2 - ALUMNI DAY AT THE GAMES.  

Sponsored by YOUR UW Parkside Alumni Association and Liberty Mutual Insurance.

The women tip off at 1 and the men at 3.  We want to make this our biggest ALUMNI DAY ever....so come on out.

We will have Coach Luke Reigel talk some strategy before the women's game and Coach Jenny Kenesie discussing a Ranger women's team win between games.

• Food will be available at times throughout the day with a tailgate lunch at 1:30.
• Kids will enjoy activities throughout the day and spend time with Ranger Bear.
• There will be prize drawings, a 50/50 raffle, and more.
• We will be hosting the Indianapolis Greyhounds in the double header.

We have a new location for the event this year.  We will be in the Strength and Conditioning Center Lounge, which is adjacent to, you guessed it the NEW Strength and Conditioning Center!

Nominations Open!

Before I talk about award nominations ... just a quick mention about the great Alumni After Hours in Gurnee last Thursday. Thanks to Kim Wright-Wooten for her good work. The next Alumni After Hours is Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Marriott in Racine ... see you there!

On to award nominations...

Nominations for the 2013 Alumni Association distinguished alumni achievement and distinguished alumni service awards are now being accepted.  

Through the association, the university annually recognizes outstanding professional accomplishments and exemplary volunteer service by its graduates. The awards are bestowed during spring and winter commencement ceremonies.

 

The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award is earned by graduates who excel in their professions.

 

The Distinguished Alumni Service Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate outstanding contributions to their local community or the university.  

 

Nominees must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from UW-Parkside. The nomination deadline for spring semester awards is Feb. 15, 2013.

Alumni After Hours heads to Illinois

Looking for something really fun to do after New Year's hats and horns have been put away? Head to Gurnee for the FIRST Alumni After Hours of 2013 and the FIRST time Alumni After Hours has been south of the Wisconsin-Illinois border.

Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m., join us at Spice in the newly remodeled Holiday Inn, 6161 W. Grand Ave. in Gurnee. There will be free appetizers and a cash bar.

Alumni Association Board member Kim Wright-Wooten, an instructor at UW-Parkside and the College of Lake County, was instrumental in helping AAH cross the border.

"We are looking forward to having our Illinois graduates to help us 'spice it up' in Gurnee!" Wright-Wooten said.

It's Been Too Long

We apologize for the lack of updates so we'll try to make up for it here.  There are some things going on with your Alumni Associaton.  Here are some dates to save....

THURSDAY DECEMBER 6 - ALUMNI AFTER HOURS @ 20 and Oakes, Racine Marriott.  5 until 7

FRIDAY JANUARY 4 - ALUMNI AFTER HOURS our first venture into northen IL.  We will be at the Holiday Inn  Grand Avenue across from Gurnee Mills, 5 until ??

SATURDAY JANUARY 12 at the DeSimone Gymnasium we have A women's and men's basketball double header.  The RACINE RAIDERS will be honored as the Minor League Football National Champions.  Come on out and see the trophy! Game times 1 and 3pm.
